Best Practices for Cleaning / Disinfecting During COVID-19

For hosts who are continuing to offer their suites for accommodation on Airbnb and other home sharing platforms, it is more important than ever to follow the best practices of not just cleaning, disinfecting and keeping safe while doing so.

Here are some tips for our hosts to delivering a safer property for their guests.

Time in Between Stays

• Wait 24 hours between each group of guests. The virus may live on a surface for hours, even days, thus keeping time in between guests will reduce the risk of the virus spreading.

Ventilate

• Open all doors and windows for 30 minutes before cleaning. This will allow fresh air to circulate before the cleaning begins.
  
  

Clean - Extra focus on frequently touched surfaces

• Tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, sinks, etc.
  
  

Disinfect

• Cleaning is not the same as disinfecting. You should clean the surfaces first and then used an approved solution such as an EPA registered household disinfectant to disinfect the areas.
• Don't forget to wipe down electronics and other entertainment consoles.
• For soft surfaces, laundering and/or disinfecting the surfaces will help kill contaminants.

Practice Safe Cleaning

• Wear gloves and a face mask.
• Don't touch your face!
• Wash your hands.
• Empty vacuums after every clean and throw out used gloves
• Avoid reusing cloths
